The UKIVAS (United Kingdom & All Ireland Vasculitis Society) annual Vasculitis Education event was held in November 2025. It’s a two-day event open to those medical professionals with a special interest in vasculitis. The course focuses on all aspects of vasculitis including guideline updates, challenging vasculitis phenotypes and holistic symptom management. It is usually well attended by around 150/200 medical professionals from all over the UK.
This was the very first year UKIVAS included the “John Mills MBE Vasculitis Educational Award” in memory of John Mills – a joint initiative between John & Susan Mills, Vasculitis UK and UKIVAS.
There were quite a few applications, but only one overall winner. The criteria to be met was for originality and to benefit vasculitis patients.
On this first occasion Susan Mills was asked to be part of the review panel along with three vasculitis specialist doctors.
All of the applications were excellent and of an exceptional high standard – it was really difficult to select an overall winner.
Sarah Hardy, Nurse Consultant at Aintree hospital won the award for devising a specific training program available for all nurses in the UK to manage and administer specific treatments for vasculitis patients including IV Cyclophosphamide and Rituximab.
